It really depends on the person's goals. Coconut oil is only 64% MCT's, and it's mostly the "longer" one. There's really 4 types of "MCT", based on carbon length. C6, C8, C10, and C12. MCT oil is C8 and C10. Coconut oil is mostly C12 with a little C8/C10. MCT oil is liquid at room temperature, coconut oil is solid. MCT is more processed, so no flavor compared to coconut oil. I don't think you want to use MCT for cooking though.

Coconut oil has too many good things in it, it's very important for mental health, among other things.

Pharmaceutical grade baby...

MCT Oil

Not made from corn like some MCT oils -- from coconuts. For those that object because coconut oil seems functionally appropriate, I prefer MCT oil in my smoothies over coconut oil because it is pretty bland and doesn't have much of a taste to it. Plus it packs an extra concentrated punch of sat fats.

I used the Upgraded MCT oil and thought it was great, but it's expensive. $29 +shipping for a 32 oz bottle. I'm not sure what constitutes "pharmaceutical grade"? I was wondering about the NOW Sports MCT oil by NOW Foods. A friend tried it and thought it was of very good quality. LP Supplements (www.lpsupplements.com) has the 32 oz for $12 plus flat rate shipping. It's more cost effective to purchase 2+ bottles at a time. Amazon has it too. I think I'll try it.

Update: On the Now Foods website, it does state "Pharmaceutical" grade. www.nowfoods.com/Sports/Products/M099642.htm

I use MCT Oil purchased from Upgraded Self: http://www.upgradedself.com/mct-oil-pharmaceutical-grade/

This is probably the best stuff on the market as it comes from Dave Asprey, The Bulletproof Executive.

Another great source is Now Foods MCT Oil which you can buy on Amazon.
