I agree with @TheGastronomer  about the pluses... as for the minues, they can cause me to pack on the pounds if I overconsume.  I try to moderate my consumption.

All the time. They're delicious, very nutritious and low carb while high in good quality fat. I like hazelnuts most but almonds and pecans are alright. Macadamias are also great but too expensive for me.

I've been cracking Macs for the last month. A concrete floor. A heavy hammer. A steady hand.

never liked nuts because they are too heavy. But: 1) I always liked chestnuts, which are eaten cooked. 2) I also always liked roasted hazelnuts. 2) recenty I received a gift of homemade marzipan from Sicily. The sweets (some sugar is added, but they are only faintly sweet) are nothing but baked almond paste. they are incredibly delish.

The almond paste is obtained by boiling, skinning and grinding almonds. I have boiled a dozen and the skin slips off easily. So it seems that I don't agree with uncooked nuts, and nuts skins. I am going to add some cooked, peeled nuts now to my diet. They are still a "supplement" type of food, not a "staple".

Roasting would cook off all the starches. And what it does for the flavor is unbelievable. A whole different food.

Yes I eat them as a snack, they are high in nutrients and very Paleo. They are however very easy to over-eat and if you're trying to watch your weight you need to be careful.

Our Paleo ancestors almost certainly ate them but probably only sparingly, since they'd have to dig out each nut before they ate it rather than buying a big jar of Planters salted almonds.
