IF you're on Paleo and being non grain, non dairy, no sugar/artificial sugar, no junk food, no legumes, and trying to limit fruits for 1 week+ (assist in weight loss), what do you guys like to eat to give you energy pre-run/ workout?

I do, too, mostly because they're calorie dense. Bulky foods before I run upset my stomach. Sometimes I will stuff dates with a pecan or another nut for a little protein/fat. Kind of a homemade Larabar of sorts.

I like to eat a few dates before intense runs. I don't eat anything much in particular before casual jogging though.

Bananas are the the easiest IMO, and not too much sugar. Dates are awesome but basically like candy. Sweet potatoes are good for a heavy carb fill up

I eat potatoes, peas, carrots, bananas, plantains, squash, rice, and yogurt for carbs.

If you are trying to avoid fruit then I guess you will be stuck with the high calorie veggies and potatoes. I would not worry about fruit affecting weight loss though if you are about to go burn it all off. I eat about 100-120g of carbs a day (down from like 250+ pre paleo) and am a bit faster than I was pre paleo but struggle a bit more with 10+ mile runs than I had in the past.

I get where you are coming from. But it's tough you are basically forcing your body to run hard and then not supply yourself with the appropriate nutrients. Personally I do all my non-track workouts in a fasted state. Due to the glycogenic nature of sprinting I think it's valuable to have some glucose available so I eat a banana about 30 minutes before I warm up. Bananas are good because they are more glucose than fructose (compared to other fruits). Good luck!

I like canned pumpkin with coconut milk mix. Add some spices and you have a pumpkin pie-like mixture. How far are you going? I don't eat anything before a 6/7 or less mile run. Speed may suffer a bit, but the paleo/primal wisdom seems to be train low, race high. Train at a lower intensity to tap into fat stores, then carb load with paleo friendly foods before racing. Marksdailyapple has a good post on this. Good luck.
