If you were planning on getting pregnant what bloodwork would you request?

If you had the luxury of time and the ability to plan, what bloodwork besides the standard lipid panel, std, blood glucose, etc would you get? And what specifically would you be looking for, for an optimal pregnancy? I had heinous hyperemisis during my first pregnancy so I'd definetely check my b6 levels when I decide it's time again. Where would you want vitamin D levels to be?

That's not really what I was asking. Any conventional OBGyn can tell me that. I'm not pregnant.

Vitamin D above all.

I'd want my 25 (OH)D levels between 50-60 ng/ml, so that I would be replete for baby and have sufficient D in my breastmilk. 50 ng/ml is the minimum, but personally, I would aim slightly higher.

Progesterone (saliva tests are best for this)

(I don't know what blood tests are available, so I am simply listing the key nutrients...)

Magnesium

Iron

Zinc

Liver function is important for clearing excess estrogen--which is implicated in HG. Sorry, I'm not up on what to test for here--hopefully someone else will chime in.

ETA: I would also check K1 & K2, if possible.

just keep in mind that while pregnant you immune system is down regulated and cold cuts of meat are no longer safe because of listeria. So just take some extra precautions against infections that normally are non- issue items. toxoplasmosis is also of great concern for pregnant women due to lowered immunity.

I agree on the D! Make sure you are at decent levels. Tests regarding to B vitamins may be a good idea too. As afar as magnesium is concerned... Serum blood tests can be very wrong.

Ultimately.. Eat good and play outside if you can. And most of all, don't stress. Pregnancy and getting pregnant can really suck. It doesn't mean it's a worthwhile experience, but it can suck. Just try to make it as pleasant as possible and with the least amount of bubble wrap.

If you feel like jogging, jog.. If you don't.. don't.

While I shun Coke with all my heart I gave in to Vitamin Water during my pregnancy. Morning sickness is a pain.

Bubble wrap isn't paleo right ;-)
