One paleo wish, what would it be?

Answered on August 19, 2014

If you could have one thing be paleo that clearly is no, what would it be? Or in other words what is one thing you know is bad for you, or really messes you up, that you wish you could still eat?

For me it's corn, not so much the corn on the Cobb variety, but corn tortillas and corn chips. It is the one thing I just can't give up.

I've found you don't even need to add anything to the mixture- 2 frozen bananas in the blender makes a bowl full of ice cream for me :)

When I was a young child my grandmother would make white bread toast, schmear parkay margarine and peanutbutter on it and we'd eat it together before anyone else in the house was up. The smell is one of my favorite memories. If I could paleoize that I think I would eat it every morning just to keep that memory close. Thank you for reminding me of it :)

Freeze fruit especially bananas. Put about 2 cups in food processor. Add 1/2 can of coconut milk...process. Add a bit of melted coconut oil while its whirring about. You will get your creamy icy goodness.

I scream for ice cream!

I don't miss cake, brownies, or cookies anymore (which I never thought would happen). But with summer here, I want ice cream.

It could be sort-of Primal, though. I've considered making my own, cutting way back on the sugar--it's the cold creaminess, rather than the sweetness, that I get a jones for.

Kate Upton...I know she's into Carls Jr...but I just can't judge her for that and she likes this SoBo drink stuff also...so even though I think I might be glutened for it, Id still eat her...and knowing that messes me up.

Truth.

Oatmeal. I can make muffins and cookies paleo using almond flour, dates, banana, pumpkin, etc. but oatmeal? I miss having a huge bowl of that stuff in the morning, eggs just aren't quite the same (although still damn delicious)!

And Peanut Butter. Although the one thing I cheat with maybe once a month is PB anyway.

My sister's challah bread. She puts walnuts, poppy seeds and honey into it before she braids it and it's just like cake. It's even better when made into french toast and drenched in maple syrup. I could eat a whole loaf easily. Unfortunately, it will make me sick. Sigh....

If I had one wish it would be that all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony.

Seriously though, ice cream. I miss it and I would cheat with it if it didn't make me horribly sick.

Sugar. I can live happily without wanting a piece of bread; I don't miss cheese or oatmeal. But goddamnit I want ice cream and chocolate. I could make Paleo-acceptable versions of them if only sugar were ok.

jelly donut on my birthday. It was a tradition. I would still do it if I didn't have celiac disease. Also, sourdough bread. Okay that's two things, but that's really it. Pretty much anything else that I want that's not paleo, I can make myself a less harmful, gluten free version to my satisfaction (cookies, pies, muffins) for a treat. But the yeasty donuts and real sourdough bread...you just have to have the gluten for it to be right.
