I have been following paleo lifestyle since Saturday after Thanksgiving and I love it! I have energy- I have lost weight- my overall well being is improved...but today I decided to partake of the holiday goodies that were at work for the Christmas food day, and it was almost instantaneous that I began to feel terrible! I have had little cheats here and there (like hot chocolate, egg nog, or a cookie), but I had several appetizer samples, desserts, etc. Almost immediately after ingesting it all, my stomach became terribly ill, I started fumigating the office, and I feel just terrible!! Is this normal after only clean eating for a few weeks?? I mean- I am glad it happened! I know fully am aware that taste is not worth it!

Yes, this is normal.

Basically, the toxins and other stuff in unhealthy food was always having a bad effect. It levels out when it's constant so you just feel a bit off all the time and get used to it, thinking it's your "normal". You got rid of most of that; two weeks clean is enough to feel worlds better as you noticed. Also, your gut flora has begun to change and the new biosphere in your gut went a little crazy on the treats, hence your free office fumigation.

I'm glad you're taking this so well. Some people blame Paleo when this happens to them and curse the day they made the change. Continue to embrace your new healthier lifestyle and get used to feeling better than others most of the time and worse than others after indulging in life's little temptations.

I used to eat the doughnuts one of our vendors brought to my office once a week. I always kind of regretted it - ruined my lunch apetite and felt a little icky. Now I can't touch the stuff or I'll feel like crap all day. I'm okay with that.

I also had christmas cheat on the company party, my liver did hurt as hell at first or maybe I just had aches in one side of the stomach (is that possible). But after a few hours I was okay again. I feel a bit shaky to day and nauseous but not to bad but next time a face a situation where Paleo options are not possible I'll take it a bit more easy cause feeling bloated is not that nice.

my body doesn't feel terrible but i generally feel gross... like the next day my body odor is worse or i'm sneezing a little more than usual. i usually have perfect poops when i eat crap food but i don't do it since i know the foods are bad in the long run. i guess it's good that you got this binge out of the way so you know to not do it again. there are always paleo recipes of the things you crave because the people that created the recipes probably ate a lot of those foods in the past!!

Thanks for your answer!!! I love that I feel terrible! I mean it stinks (literally, hehe) but it simply reaffirms the change.
