I've always struggled with my weight due to my natural tendancy to eat too many carbs and junk and drink too much. I lost about 3 stone last year for my wedding in September (Cambridge diet) but afterwards completely relaxed and before I knew it I had put on a a few lbs.
I've been aware of the paleo movement for years and completely buy into it - I just wasn't implementing it, so I'm now 2 weeks into my new regime which I was hoping would yield quick results which would encourage me to view this as a long term lifestyle change. I started 3 x early morning bootcamps in December but this was combined with what can only be termed as gluttony on my part and I put on about 6 lbs over the month. However for the last fortnight I have been completely avoiding alcohol, eating only homecooked food, limited fruit, no sugar, no nasties and fairly low carb. This combined with my 3 x early morning sessions per week (either HIIT or resistance) and walking circa 12 miles per week at a very brisk pace as I hurry scurry on the school run then to work.
So a typical day might be: celery and cucumber sticks with homemade cashew nut butter for breakfast, smoked mackerel and avocado salad with homemade paleo mayo for lunch and a coconut based curry with cauliflower rice for tea. Or maybe an omelette for breakfast, baked sweet potato with prawns and (paleo) mayo plus salad for lunch and salmon fillet with (homemade paleo) hollandaise, mashed carrot and suede, french beans and mushrooms for dinner. Snacks might be a (small) handful of nuts or an apple. I drink coffee with coconut cream in the morning and try and limit my dairy (not always possible as it's hard to get good quality free range meat at an affordable price so I use cheese and even tofu as my protein source from time to time, I was veggie for years and I'm still not that great with meat).
Anyway, the long and the short of it is that week one I lost one pound and was pretty gutted but reasoned I'd overindulged after Christmas and maybe it was going to take a while to kind of 'reset' if you like. However this morning I got on the scales and have put that pound back on. I mean how is this even possible? I've gone from drinking a bottle of wine a night and eating cake and pastries daily to no booze, no sugar, healthy food and lots of excercise. I'm mortified. I mean really.
What am I doing wrong?
