Hack my weight gain, breakouts, and general Debbie-Downer disposition

Hey, I'm a complete newbie, so I apologize if I am asking a question that has already been asked. Within the last 10 days or so, I've begun the Paleo-transition. I pretty much tried to kick all wheat/gluten/sugar/bad stuff out of my diet cold turkey and follow the Paleo guidelines and best as I have known how. Of course, I've had a few "oops" moments and there is still much to learn and improve. Also, I've been unable to transition completely to grass-fed/free-range/organic products. Work in progress. Anyway, I'd say I'm at least 80/20.

However, there are a few things that have me concerned. Within the first 2 or 3 days of changing my diet, I lost about 2 pounds. I'm a 5'6'', 120 pound female, so weight loss wasn't really my goal. Regardless, I wasn't too concerned. I stepped on the scale a few days later, though, and found that I've GAINED 5 pounds (now up to 123). My weight doesn't typically vary more than a pound or so (and I am always sure to weigh myself in the morning, when most accurate). Also, I'm having some pretty bad acne breakouts--which has never really been an issue for me. This is all in addition to the gloomy, sluggish funk I've been in for about the past week (carb withdrawals? I've heard something about that...).

Is this all normal? Am I doing something wrong? I'm mostly eating a variety of meats, vegetables, healthy fats in the form of coconut oil and butter, and very limited nuts and fruit. Although I'm not majorly upset by the weight that I've gained, I don't think I really want to keep gaining more. And I know it's not from muscle--I've been held up with a cold recently and have been in no way active.

Thanks everyone for your answers--I've really enjoyed learning so much from this community.

I'll give that a try. Currently my percentages look something like: 60 fat, 30 protein, 10 carbs. I'll do some rearranging.

perhaps keeping the same amount of calories, change the macronutrient ratio? higher carb, moderate - lower fat? see if that works out

I actually gained a ton of weight on low carb high fat paleo. It didn't work out for me because not only did it affect my weight, it also made my skin dry, feeling cold was an issue, and i was just feeling "blah" in mood. Unless one is extremely obese, I personally would never ever recommend low carb to anyone.

It's been around 1600-1800 calories a day. Definitely under 2000 since I've been so inactive. And no "blockage", haha. I've been regular every morning, as usual. Just not as...uh, bulky as when my diet was carb-filled. I assumed that was normal? Anyhow, I'll add in some more carbs if that is what you recommend...I have been keeping them extremely low (under 50 grams daily).

i also hate to ask..but are you regular? many ppl here experience a blockage in the pipe system if you gnome i sayin' - the 5lbs could be due to that, water retention, weather...etc

what's your daily caloric intake? also, if it is the low carb flu you're experiencing, then just up your carbs and add some salty goodness to your meals :-)
