I have been following paleo for about 2 months, initially in an effort to lose weight and get fitter. I am a 47 year old woman, my cholesterol is creeping up and fasting blood sugars too, so I began reading more about diet and health. I lost about 9 pounds but then stalled. I was mostly low carb, less than 50 g per day but more recently, Ive begun adding sweet potatoes a couple of times a week as Ive seen advised. I dont mind if weight loss is very slow, Im more interested in improving my insulin resistance and general health. However, I have not felt really well eating paleo, always having mild indigestion, foggy headedness and a lot of anxiety Yesterday was my last day of a holiday and I had a total binge, museli and yoghurt, chocolate and 4 crumpets with jam! This morning, I feel terrrific, clear headed, no nausea and no anxiety. Please can you hack my diet, Im very confused as to what to do. My usual paleo food is Breakfast 3 scrambled eggs& butter and a cup of berries. Decaf coffee with butter Lunch salmon with salad and avacado, or olives or olive oil Dinner grass fed beef or lamb with veggies, mostly kale or brocolli though I do have parsnips, carrots, and more recently sweet potatoes. I eat most veg. Some nuts although not loads as they do make me gain weight. I cook in olive oil and gooose fat. I eat around 1500 -2000 cals per day. Ive had to avoid coconut, dark chocolate and red wine as they all give me unpleasant anxiety symptoms. I also have omega 3 capsules and a good quality multivitamin. I do 45 mins walking per day plus Mark Sissons weights once a week and very occasional sprints. I get plenty of sleep. Im at a loss as to what is best to do for my well being. Thankyou. This site has been very instructional.

A few things...
Agree with raising your carb intake. I never felt good at less than 25% carb. Clearly it works for some people, but I'm not one of them. My fasting blood sugar when I started was 99, which I found worrisome, two years later it's down to 90, so I don't think you need to be VLC to make improvements in that area. (And we're about the same age) I hope mine will eventually get below 90.
When you make a serious change in your diet, it can take a good long time for your gut flora to adjust, and I also had very low energy & brain fog until mine did, & I also had all sorts of sugar & carb cravings. Taking a good probiotic and eating fermented food can help, as Maria mentioned. But if you can stick it out and be patient, all of that will go away eventually, and if you're anything like me, you'll have more energy than you used to. So try to make that your incentive not to cheat or binge -- try to make it through 4-6 weeks of no cheating and see how you feel then.

I've felt this too (binging and feeling on top of the world). I have no truth but several theories:
-digestion is influenced by more than what you eat; it also has to do with mental health. Paleo can be very restrictive and feel like an incredible constant deprivation. Thus, when I break the diet, I feel mentally better and my digestion improves.
-I wasn't eating enough calories before, so when I binged I felt better because I was just plain getting enough energy.
-my body hates me and wants me to suffer (seriously beginning to suspect this is the case)
Other theories in your case: yogurt is a probiotic - are you regularly including probiotic foods in your diet? If not, you could be seeing the beneficial effects of that - maybe try sauerkraut or probiotic supplements and see if you get the same effect?
