Could Paleo be a smart decision for someone like me?

I'm very intrigued by the Paleo diet/lifestyle, however I don't know if I should think of attempting it at this point. I recently gave up dairy and am very happy with the results of that change, so there would be no butter or milk in my diet- also, I haven't eaten beef or pork in over 20 years. Don't want to start. I enjoy chicken and all types of fish, eggs, most veggies and fruits. I try to keep bread/pasta to a minimum. Slight sugar addiction that comes and goes. 15 pounds I'd like to lose but not urgent. 36, very healthy. So.... what sayeth the masses?
(This is my first question. Thanks in advance.)

I'd diversify beyond only avocado. But some macadamia oil and nuts, some avocado, some coconut

I don't want to incorporate dairy at all- I love avocado though and could easily eat 1 or two a day.... would that do it? Thanks again, everyone~

I don't think that is 100% for sure. If you eat a 30% protein diet of salmon, sardine and Chicken/Turkey with the skin you won't need that much added fat. Maybe a bit of butter on your taters and you'll be good to go. If you are down at 10% Prot. AND low-carb you are gonna have to drink butter to get it together.

The only thing about fish and chicken with no dairy, is youll need a fat source (especially if you do lower carb). Hence the coconut, but id also add to that fattier fish - muscles, salmon, sardines etc...

A fair point. I found, for me, that lots of fruit stalls weight loss eventually. Of course I'm pretty messed. I'm down 150lbs with another 50ish to go. So...caveat emptor.

My rule is no added sugar. Sugar that occurs naturally in fruit and wine and hard alcohol are highly desirable within tolerable limits and moderation bla bla. But ya, wat LikesLardinMayo says, I don't have much more to add.

Play with it. Some folks do really well on a diet with lots of yam, sweet potato, taro, taters, maybe even a bit of white rice. Others find they need to go lower carb. In general if you aren't grossly obese (as I was) I'd say eat the sort of diet you would have when not paleo, but made up of Paleo foods. After 30 days you'll feel better, look better, and if you are happy you are all set. If you want to lean out more start ramping down the carbs until you get to where you wanna be.

Thank you, LLM- very encouraging to hear that. So just to be clear, no sugar (except from occasional fruit), breads, or beans.... and more potatoes? I'm sort of green to the lingo. :) Coconut milk/water/flesh/oil.... I can def. deal with that.

Give it a shot. Eat whatever meat you want - poultry and fish are fine.

Just drop the added sweeteners, grains and legumes. Embrace coconut of all sorts and lots of tubers and you are golden.

I had not eaten meat in years. I've been Paleo for a month, you are gonna feel great! As stated above add some fatty fish, eggs. Keep asking questions, this is a great forum. Good Luck!
