Are extracts okay on a paleo diet?

I'm new to this and am wondering if extracts like lemon, orange, vanilla or peppermint are okay to use.

Yea except for the fact that they are...umm...artificial.

Other than being one-dimensional, artificial extracts are going to be essentially the same as the natural product, minus the small amounts of side extracts.

Be aware that alot of "essences" in supermarkets are made with chemicals, not extracted from plants though.

I would personally use lemon juice, lemon rind, orange rind, vanilla pod, peppermint leaves etc if you could.
