Feeling dirty/greasy while while coming off grains?!?

Damn, so one of my guy-friends who is Type II diabetic and overweight decided to "try Paleo" after I referred him to several studies, FB pages, etc. So he's been grain-free for 2 days and says he doesn't think he can stick to it because he feels icky and dirty?!?! Says he feels like he's sweating bacon-grease (didn't eat any bacon) and just feels like he can't get clean. How weird! Anyone else experience a feeling like this while transitioning?

I've got to get a decent looking picture of my torso. Probably not gonna happen in my physical therapy clothes, so it might take until tomorrow or Monday since my husband hogs the computer on Sundays.

I deleted my response on the Food Aversion question, thanks for being a better reader than me. You must become a Torso Chick - since you asked. It is a movement (silly fun really) in response to all those Torso Dude Gravatars. Are you in? Torso!

If anything I actually stopped having greasy hair. I wonder if it's just in his head. I think people who are truly addicted to carbs will much like an alcoholic make up any excuse in their head for why they shouldn't go low carb. Not saying they aren't really believing the excuse but it's just the addiction talking.

And just as a moment of empathy, I had the same issue with dairy. I had a million "health" reasons for why I wasn't giving up dairy but when I finally saw it clear as day on my allergy test I just forced myself to give it up and i still slip up sometimes but your friend just needs to get over the hump.

I can feel that way if I eat a lot of fat and protein and not much vegetables or fruits. Sometimes I'll shower twice in a day. If he is enthusiastic in his Paleo-ism he might be eating nothing but steak and eggs every meal or something.

If he is diabetic, overweight, and has been eating a lot of starches, processed foods, sugars, etc. and he suddenly cuts all of that out, he's definitely going to go through an adjustment period of some kind. Tell him to stick it out for at least 30 days and deal with all of the minor issues that come up. When he loses 10 pounds and has twice the energy he did, he'll see the point.

See the question I just posted about smelling Beefy. Maybe it's the same thing. It's quite possible that his body is detoxifying. See if you can get him to hold out for 2 whole weeks, meanwhile shower twice a day? And have him try some Dove bar soap. I find that it washes the greasinesss off of me (I'm a rather greasy person) without drying out my sensitive skin too bad.

Ummm, no. Anything's possible, I suppose. He should stick with it.
