Late 70's/early 80's hardcore and punk - Wire, Cro-Mags, The Exploited, Bad Brains, Pere Ubu, Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, et al. When I'm doing strict presses or deadlifts pretty much anything 80's from a John Hughes movie. The best is at the end of a 10x2 box squat and The Pixies pops on an **everyone** starts dancing about the box - good times.

I don't always run, but when I do, it's to Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon.

I've also been listening to some dubstep lately; everyone seems to find it annoying as hell (except my 15-year old niece) but I do like it for driving and working out.

I listen to Gnarls Barkley and other assorted Cee Lo tunes, along with Gorillaz, and some old Ska (Toots and the Maytals, Desmond Dekker) for my walks, bike rides, etc...

Music while lifting usually encompasses everything from Faith No More, to Dropkick Murphy's, even old Brit streetpunk like Cocksparrer and The Business.

I can't remember the name of the site (there's a couple of sites similar to it also), but you enter the bpm you'd like and it gives you a list of songs that match. This is great for barefoot/ minimalist running since your cadence should be 180+ per minute. So I just search for songs ~180 bpm. As for any lifting songs, I'd go for heavy metal, even though I don't particularly like the genre. (Something like Slipknot or, though it's not heavy metal, Rage Against the Machine!!!)

when not outside, i drown out the standard gym music with my own. for me, music is contextual based on what im working out; weird right? anyway, lately for intense weightlifting i've been going heavy on "dubstep" (warning, not for everybody -- very heavy electronic and often with no lyrics).

If I'm outside running, I don't generally listen to any music. I feel like I should listen for traffic/dogs/crazy people trying to 'get' me. If I'm inside I like electronic (Depeche Mode, BT, And One), heavier stuff (Rammstein, Oomph!) or random silly 80's. If I'm tired I need something really energetic/upbeat to keep me going.

My favorite workout track is the environment I'm in. I am usually up before most other people (5:30-ish) and I love being outside while everything is still quiet.

I am amazed though at how many "morning" birds are already up and singing at this hour! They must be the ones getting all the worms...8)

Hi there,

The best workout music is hard to find among regular music to match your exact rhythms of exercise but anything with a good beat will allows you to keep count. The best workout music optimally would be music that matched high intensity music for your high intensity period followed by a mellower tune for your rest periods. Today there are some good websites where you can find these songs; it depends on you to choose the best one for example musicplay.com, musicforte.com etc. They became partnered up with publishing companies from all corners of the world in order to provide you with hundreds of thousands of selections in both hard-copy and digital format.

Awesome input from everyone! I'm into anything with heavy bass and I'll add minimalist techno particularly from Deep Mix Moscow Radio. There's a section to download their mixes. Also, "A Forest" by The Cure is one of my all time favorites, especially for running/cycling at a good fast pace.
