Can you GAIN muscle/weight on Paleo???

The great debate going on in my head is whether I embark on the 'eat whatever's in sight and gain muscle' diet - in conjunction with a heavy weight training program - or carry out what I really want to do and pull of a paleo diet and wish to have the same results that peanut butter and muscle milk can render. Has anyone actually gained muscle/weight on paleo?? Thanks!

It's all calories and a little excess protein. Any magical powers attributed to PB and muscle milk beyond that is broscience and marketing.
