How can I eat more fat?

I have been trying to eat paleo pretty much this year but I keep falling off due to not feeling satisfied after meals. I eat larger meals than even my husband with at least half a plate of vegetables and sometimes whole ribeye steaks. I believe part of my problem in the past is I wasn't restricting my fruit intake so this time I am limiting myself to one or two small portions a day. I have also started supplementing my meals by drinking cream afterwords which has helped a lot but I'm not sure if all the dairy is that good for me. So I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions?

Where did I ever say I was trying to lose weight?

Supplementing with hyperpalatable, low satiety, high energy density fats when you're trying to lose weight doesn't strike me as such a great idea. Calories matter, satiety matters, energy density matters, palatability matters.

This is a really easy way to add some fat if you like coffee.

More:

  • Eggs
  • Fatty meat cuts (chicken thighs, t-bone, rib-eye...)
  • Snacks consisting of nuts
  • Avocado (Guacamole!!!)
  • Homemade Mayonnaise Butter or Ghee
  • Cheese, high quality only (if you can tolerate dairy)

One of my favorite meals is Spinach & Thighs. What I basically do is saute a small onion in a dollop of butter till soft, add about 2-3 lbs of spinach, 3-4 tablespoons of tomato paste, and a cup of stock, broth or water, bring to a boil and reduce for 10 minutes. When done, add shredded chicken thighs (cooked in a non-stick skillet without any added fat as the meat is succulent enough). And there you have it!

For breakfast you could try mixing cheese (mozzarella) with 3-4 eggs, a bit of tomato paste and some dried herbs (I prefer dill or oregano), fry in a teaspoon of coconut oil and you'll have a wonderful cheese omelette that tastes, somehow, like pizza!

Thank you everyone these are some good suggestions. I'm not a huge fan of coconut oil for more than just a couple things, it kinda nauseates me if I have to much but I love animal fats and olive oil.

Duck fat is my go to fat. I fry my eggs in it for breakfast and pour the fat over them on the plate. I also fry lower fat meats like turkey or chicken breast in and I pour it over my veggies. Potatoes are awesome roasted with duck fat on them.

Try adding fat to your meals by adding coconut oil, olive oil, or good animal fat. I wouldn't go to dairy for that. Some people do well with pastured butter, though. I agree with you that too much fruit can leave you hungrier and wanting more. I definitely have to limit it, or I'm going back for more without noticing. Good luck.

try buying a deep fat fryer... filling it with beef dripping and pre-boiling/deep frying parsnips/sweet potatoes/potatoes.... those + various meats = holy crap satisfying :)
