[META] What are Patrik/PaleoHacks' policies when it comes to self treatment?

I posted an inquiry about DIY fecal transplant, attached a study called "Success of Self-Administered *Home* Fecal Transplantation for Chronic Clostridium difficile Infection" and got closed with "this is in "see a doctor territory".

The whole point of the paper was to show that this can be done without a doctor, not to mention there are probably less than ten doctors in the world who perform this procedure.

So where is the limit between "can I hack x" and "go see a doctor" ?

"sie effects". See, this a view angle that I can understand more. I'll still make another thread in March 2012 though :D Things will change ;)

This is not a case of "go see your doctor" or "this is dangerous", but it is a case of "I'm not sure what the side effects are". The bent of paleohacks seems to be diet related, shying away from things involving medical procedures (even if they appear to be benign). Thus, it is not something inherently bad about the topic of trying poop exchanges or discussing the merits, but rather that paleohacks cuts out a certain swath of topics that happens to include that topic.

Also, with the particular procedure, what is so different when being done at home or at hospital, fancy gold "enemas" aside.

Kamal, when then ? When Dr. Harris makes a post about it ? I think it's unrealistically to expect that this procedure will be a) massivly implemented (can't sell it) or b) understood in a n <5 years timeframe. The first transplant was done like in the 1950's. I was reading a paper (by Borody I think) where he states that we have not yet been able can't identify most of the gut residents. And how to gain experience, if not by debating/trying/etc ? I'm not denying the fact that it's new, and fairly untested but what does closing a thread do to help change that ?

Ikco- even though there is a paper, there is also an absence of experience in the process of home poop-exchange. Because there may be side effects that are unforseen, seeing as how this is an exchange of poop that may have poopy components you don't want, administrators may not welcome the topic.

No problem, just a find me a paper that evalued this kit and outlined the process. Thank you. And yes, having an enema is quite similar to surgery. Don't know how I was able to miss that ;)

I can't see how PaleoHacks could be damaged by my thread, law wise.

I suspect the line is partially drawn by a quite rational desire not to be lawyer-bait.
