[meta] How can one change an avatar pic at PaleoHacks?

Answered on August 19, 2014

I'm bringing this issue forward from the comments section here, as I did not see it in the FAQ.

I have never used the Gravatar site, but we have some very creative and attractive avatars here at PaleoHacks. So if you have tips, tricks and hacks for creating and posting a Gravatar, please answer below.

I have chosen not to use Gravatar because my impression is that you forfeit the copyright to uploaded pictures.

I don't get the gravatar concept. A pic that makes sense in a paleo context (someone has a great coconut picture!) makes no sense on another, non-food related site. Why link them? That said, I can live life very well without uploading a picture.

Your gravatar is associated with an email address. If you just want to use a picture once instead of for multiple sites/blogs, you can set up a separate email for your PaleoHacks pic. Sounds tedious, yes, but someone will chime in if there are other ways to do it.

Ed - a timely and brilliant question. I would only add that the ideal male Gravatar in the olden days (three days ago), was what I call the "urinal shot". This would be a poorly lit photo of the unclad male torso looking like he is standing before a potty. This kind of photo would give such a man status as a "Torso Dude."

In this new and modern era of total female domination, though, the new photo of choice for all ladies is the "Torso Chick" shot. This is achieved in much the same way, but in keeping with Gravatar's "G" rating. Skin need not show, but you do get bonus points for that. Long T-shirts are perfectly acceptable.

I will prolly continue to annoy all of you with this game until I receive a cease and desist order.

Remember - laughter lowers cortisol.

What if you don't want a Gravatar? What if you want a garden variety pic?
