[meta] Can we ask other PH users direct questions? Instead of posting a question for ALL?

Firstly, I wanna say how wonderful this site has been to me in the past few months. Reading through hundreds of questions and their responses, I've learned a great deal more about health/nutrition. Paleohacks is truly a gem on the internet if you look closely.

That said, sometimes I want to directly message users (i.e. with questions about what they did, or about their success). Is there such a function? If not, is there a way we can develop a messaging system?

The Bill Baileys of the world would make a mess of it. So it'd have to be opt-in, through a request to chat, in a chat room, or via a third party, such as a moderator.

Wouldn't it be possible to do something like on Quora where you can post a question and then request that a certain person answer it for an extra badge or points. Just some way to even tag other users in a question would be useful, as then you could get the answers you want from that specific person while leaving it open to the general community to see their responses and also share their experiences for public benefit.

You could just leave a comment and ask the person to put their email address up (on a temporary basis or otherwise), or post your own address...

There is not one that I know of. Some users do have personal websites listed in their profile, and I assume that you could message them that way. I haven't needed to message anyone privately, but I am not opposed to such a system.

There have been many times I have wanted to message directly. I have also wanted to add people to contact later. As an example, I'm living abroad, but would like to reconnect with one or two PHers that I know live in or near my hometown. I can't contact them through PH to get in touch. Wish I could.

Not trying to make this into a Facebook type atmosphere by any means, but if you could at least save connections to send a message to, I think it would be a valuable upgrade to the community.

At the same time, the only downside possible is that together in private messages, we may uncover valuable insight, and would deprive the rest of the community that information.
