I am currently following the Autoimmune Paleo Protocol to manage my Hashimotos and Leaky Ive not consumed fruit for the last three weeks to deal with my blood sugar and have experienced some significant detox effects: developed a sinus infection, cellulitis and extreme fatigue. It's so hard to say what's causing these issues: going LC with Hashimoto's, detoxing or both. Anyways, I would love to help my liver out with some gluthiaone precursors, BUT, I have 8 mercury amalgam fillings, that I can not currently afford to remove. Does anyone have any input on using ALA or NAC with mercury fillings intact or have suggestions for safely detoxing the liver with them in? Thanks!

Yes, I have taken ALA and NAC while my amalgam fillings were intact. I also happened at the time to be taking some greens and green drinks which are reputed to also cause chelation.
I did have a pretty strong reaction when I first started. My kidneys started throbbing and aching. This was probably because I was not drinking enough water while chelating.
Since you may not know what shape your organs are in, I strongly recommend reviewing all your foods and supplements to identify other chelators you may be taking unknowingly.
Then drink plenty of pure water and pay close attention to how your body is responding, adjust dose and frequency of chelators accordingly.
Also find ways to sweat every single day, along with drinking lots of water. This will modulate the chelation process, and probably reduce the load on your organs (as heavy metals begin to move through your system).

Intestinal Metal Detox (IMD) by Quicksilver Scientific is a product you can use to take the burden off the liver and it's safe to do with mercury fillings intact.
