Paleo and the use of Medical Cannabis

Ok, so Im not sure this is ok to ask here. But, I will do so considering we are all here because we are open to new ideas.

I am fully aware that smoking is absolutely bad. I have a few friends who recently got their Medical Cannibus cards. Since this is becoming more "acceptable" (I live in California) as a method of alternative medicine, I was curious if there are different uses that are more paleo friendly, i.e. making and using cannabis infused butter (would making this ruin the integrity of the butter? etc.)

I guess I'm just wondering how bad the use of this stuff could be, and, are there certain ways of using it better than others from a paleo standpoint? Also, where would it rate on a scale of negative effects on the body as compared to alcohol.

I am fully aware that this could be a ridiculous question, but is there any sort of insulin response associated with it?
