Paleo meat replacements?

So far I'm eating eggs, I can keep them down and they don't make my stomach cramp. And I've gotten to where Tilapia doesn't bother my stomach too bad.

I'm eating yogurt because of how probiotic Natural Plain Greek Yogurt is. I haven't found a digestive enzyme that I can afford (I'm on disability, I make about $430 a month, my parents won't buy something that they aren't willing to eat), until then I'm on a vegetarian diet, including light fish. So until this all gets sorted out and I can afford this stuff, I need a lot of good recipes or meat replacements or anything. I guess this question is broader then just the meat replacements, but just anything about being vegetarian and paleo.

I can eat/drink: -Light Fish (like tilapia) -Cheese (Lactose Free) -Eggs (if I eat too much of the white...it's not pretty, but a small amount of white and the yolk) -Yogurt (Plain Greek) -Chicken and veggie stocks -Most Veggies (I don't like the taste of onions, raw peppers, squash, eggplant, zucchini or olives) -Fruits (All the fruits I've tried, I've liked, but theres not a huge array of fruits available here) -Tea -Water (obviously)

ehhh...thats all I can stomach.

So to square off all of my questions:

1) Are there /any/ affordable digestive enzymes?

2) What can I use to replace meat?

3) Does anyone have any good recipes that would fit into what I eat?

Superb suggestion! Also, you may not have to pay a cent for them. Star mooning about your local butcher's. Try the smaller grocery stores, too. I get more beef bones than I can use for absolutely free. May I also suggest leeks as an additive to your broth. They are much milder than onions.

What Jamie and Lisa have suggested is excellent. Make your own stuff! kefir and kombucha, yoghurt and broth are all not only better for you - will help you heal faster - but are SUPER low cost. As a person who is rabid about thrift I gotta say that you can't beat that combo (best for you/low price)! All of these things are also v. easy to make at home. Best of luck in your healing journey. Please keep us updated on your progress. We Paleos tend to be a close Clan and we make great cheerleaders. :)

Gelatine occurs naturally in homemade bone broth...just saying. Maybe look into the GAPS diet as a way to use paleo, but also heal.

I want to add that you can make homemade probiotics by fermenting vegetables. Also making kefir and kombucha at home. These have (documented) loads more probiotics than store bought probiotic pills. Also, homemade yogurt has more probiotics than store-bought. You really can heal digestion without breaking the bank.

I think a very good, healing thing would be for you to purchase beef bones. Even grass fed organic are cheap. Make homemade stock. Roast the bones in the oven for 20 min or so, then add to crock pot and add water, bay leaf, garlic, onion, carrot, etc and keep it on low for a couple days. Strain and eat a couple cups a day.

This is VERY cheap and healing fir your digestion. Plus it provides tons of minerals. A good meat sub.

good enzymes run about $20, Fennel that has not been irradiated is good for digestion, also good pro-biotics are a must, i've been reading lately how difficult it is to replensish flora after one series of antibiotics so yogurt is just not enough.

when you reach a high state of healing, will you be able to earn an income again? not trying to pry into your disability, but i want to support you on your road to better health and achieving.

Quite a few PaleoHackers take gelatin (animal source) as a way to boost protein intake with minimal/no digestive stress.

It could be incorporated into soups, stews, stocks, etc.

You mentioned tilapia, but what about other types of fish? Maybe some fattier types like salmon?

Some have suggested that stomach cramping issues are tied to imbalanced digestive flora, so you might want to investigate whether you are eating foods that could lead to overgrowth, etc. (check out FODMAP)

Digestive enzymes are cheap and you can find them at any health food, whole foods, or natural food store. Just pick up a small 30-day supply and try them to see if you experience any relief. For the $10 or so that you will spend it can't hurt to try.
