Meat in how many meals a day?

Answered on August 19, 2014

Turns out my concept of Paleo meal was a bit restrictive/flawed. I used to think one needs to have meat in all the 3 meals in the day...

Just to make out how I can work things for myself... how many of your meals per day consists of meat/egg?

Swati, I haven't been on Paleo long enough to make suggestions...but I know I see a lot of variety in what I have read on this board. I just read your other question and all of its answers/comments with interest, and I just want to say: I wish you well, and hope you find what works for you with local ingredients. If you do need to incorporate some grains, soaking and/or fermenting will reduce the antinutrients significantly. The Weston A Price website has a lot of info on this.

Same here. Meat + Veg = dinner, eggs + veg = breakfast, sometimes with meat. Sometimes I'll have a snack mid day that doesn't have meat.

I only eat meat once a day. About two fillets of fish (usually mackerel or salmon) with veggies roasted in coconut oil. The rest of my daily intake consists of fruits and vegetables, sometimes nuts, raw/paleo chocolate, tea/coffee with coconut oil.

oh yeah... my words were a little misleading. I actually wanted to know if adding the protein stuff of animal origin in each meal a necessary part of Paleo framework? Could you share some reasons about which you mentioned in the last line...

Eggs for breakfast, beef or chicken for lunch, fish (and sometimes an egg) for dinner. Of course throughout the day I eat loads of veggies along with some nuts/seeds and a little fruit. A low-ish carb Paleo diet enables me to eat in quantity and frequently without gaining an ounce.

PS - throw in some vegan protein powder into the mix too.

I aim for three square meals a day eating meat at each meal, while sometimes ending up with only two meals. I think having a light meal in the evening whether that's with or without animal protein is a good idea. Making digestion and a good nights sleep a little easier.

1-3, depending on my mood and what's in the fridge. I eat dairy, but not a lot of eggs.

I only eat one meal per day of meat/poultry/fish/eggs. I also have local organic heavy cream in my morning coffee and one little container of full-fat organic fruit yogurt with fresh berries in the afternoon. I'm just not driven to eating lots and lots of meat.

bulletproof coffee for breakfast (though sometimes bacon and eggs)

meat for lunch

fish (or more meat, less often) for dinner

seems to be working well for me at the moment.

I eat some kind of protein for every meal. Eggs and/or sausage for breakfast, fish or beef for dinner. Usually cheese or yogurt for lunch.

Are you asking about meat specifically or rather do you need a healthy protein source at each meal? The type of protein if your choice be it meat, chicken, egg, fish, etc. Most people seek to have a portion of protein at each meal for a variety of reasons.

Depends on the day, but 2-3 meals contain some meat, usually 2 to 4 oz of meat. Eggs may be in 1 or 2 of my meals. Some days I don't eat eggs at all, but I eat meat and veg everyday.
