Do you care if sugar is used to preserve meat. Do you avoid it, or does anyone have any information saying it's not to bad haha.

Avoid it if you can, but put it into perspective, it isn't the worst offender either by its nature (its usually dextrose AFAIK) or the quantity used.
You can shop around for brands that use little or no sugar, but again, the amounts used are to my knowledge not that significant. 80/20 rule, IMO this would be sweating the small stuff.
