grass-fed offal/organ meat? also, 99 Ranch market for meat/fish?

Hi all, I was wondering where people have been getting grass-fed offal, and whether this is as important as getting typical grass fed meat cuts. For example, I live on the west coast where 99 Ranch sells lots of cheap obscure meat parts which I'm eager to try, but often have unknown origins --should I go for it? I'm not sure where to buy offal otherwise.

Also, still wondering about 99 Ranch (sorry if the chain is too specific...)--anyone know how the meat/fish was raised? I've heard the fish is super fresh, but don't know much else. I guess I'm wondering if anyone shops here regularly and have asked about this already, to save me a trip :) I'm newly paleo so if 99 Ranch works out, my new lifestyle wouldn't be so costly (currently getting meat from farmer's market/Costco fish). Thanks so much.

That's a great tip! The frozen coconut milk (unfortunately it's in plastic) is wonderful too. To me the chicken does not appear pumped up with hormones and more yellow (more free range? I have no idea... Chinese people don't know what free range means...(I'm chinese and I've tried asking).

I thought the liver only filters toxins rather than storing them. Aren't toxins stored in ordinary fat tissue? Nevertheless, I would look for hormone- and antibiotic-free sources at a minimum.

I'm not sure about other organ meats, but liver accumulates any toxins the animal is exposed to, so it would be especially important to know the origin (organic, pastured) of liver.

Not 99 Ranch but I've never felt so miserable eating meat as when I eat meat from the Korean market in K-Town. I've never bought the fish but the pork and beef they sell makes me feel horrible. I guess I get what I pay for.

I just bought a bunch of meat over the weekend from Chinatown in San Francisco. Many different cuts of pork for 70 cents to $2.50 per pound. I felt safest with the pork tenderloin since it was super lean and fat & organs is where all the toxins end up. I'd bet this meat came from the same distributor as 99 Ranch.

I have bought pork belly from 99 Ranch and it was delicious (though almost certainly a factory farmed pig). But I had to singe / broil off some whiskers (about the equivalent of a weeks worth of stubble) from the belly of the pig. Though maybe this is a sign of freshness??

Check the Asian markets' frozen section. They often have NZ lamb priced very affordably. I recently picked up a large wild boar shoulder for six bucks a pound - not necessarily cheap, but cheap for wild boar in CA.

Just today I was googling it - there is a number of grassfed online butcheries/farms, and some had all different offal, like tongue, heart, liver, kidneys... google is your friend :) It's probably more expensive, but you know exactly from which farm it comes, and they claim it's organic and free of any additives, nitrites (but got to check - I found one farm that had grass fed beef but were adding nitrites to their sausages).
