Favorite Meat-centric New York restaurants?

This question is really skewed towards Melissa, and maybe Dr. K...since they seem to be the only NYC PHers that are active, besides me.

Some of my old friends from High School are coming to town this weekend, and I want to take them to a cool restaurant for some meat, meat and more meat. Thinking...Argentinian steak houses with table side meat carving, or something along those lines. I also just don't really know what's out there...shame on me for living here for 10 years and not exploring enough (I'm a poor musician!)

Any suggestions?

It's traif, and it's VERY good. Fatty cue in the area is great too!

Plataforma is generally considered to be overpriced.

I second Takashi, I had an awesome, awesome meal there recently.

Also yes to Traif and Fatty Cue and Fette Sau.

This isn't a favorite but a little tip for those who commute to/from the suburbs. The Grand Central Terminal Food Court downstairs has a Chili stand with two kinds of beanless chili. I had Cincinnati Lamb Chili from there today and it was pretty damn good. It does have some hominy in it which i guess some may find objectionable but it was basically a hearty meat stew with a nice amount of spice. If you skip the side of bread they offer you a 2nd free topping. Not bad overall if you're looking for something convenient to a metro north commute.

Churrascaria Plataforma! Although I ate there before going paleo, it is still the best meal I have ever had. My advice is to stay away from the salad bar area and let them bring the meat to you. Yum!!!

I ate at Azul in the lower east side once a few years ago, small and casual, not too expensive, and it's Argentinian, with all grass fed beef from Uruguay, that might fit the bill: http://www.azulnyc.com/index2.htm

We visited NYC a couple of years ago and were sent to Del Friscos by many people we met. Not cheap - but the best lamb chops I have ever had - and the best porterhouse hubby ever had. http://www.delfriscos.com/.php

Plataforma (brazilian rodizio style) sounds like the ticket!

These are my favorites from the more standard steak houses: Strip House, Dylan Prime, City Hall, Keens, Old Homestead, Uncle Jack's

Edit: Oh yeah, just remembered, Michael Jordan's right there in Grand Central Station is pretty cool too.
