Grew up vegetarian/can't bring myself to cook raw meat/HELP

Hey Y'all,

I went grocery shopping the other day, determined to buy loads of good meat and fish. The only problem is, I grew up in a vegetarian household. While I do eat fish or chicken from time to time, I cannot prepare raw meat. I am disgusted by it. And I know, it's hypocritical since I have no (categorical) problem with eating meat, yada yada yada (though I kinda hardly ever do). But still, any suggestions? I thought maybe I just stick with fish and seafood?!

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

sabia

Dairy isn't paleo....unless bovine growth hormone cocktails are your thing. Yes raw dairy does contain growth hormones, "naturally ocurring" but then again death is perfectly "naturally ocurring" too. By the way, raw milk can give you a really fun time if you get a bad batch...luckily you might only get E. Coli or Salmonella and spend a couple of days in the toilet, if you catch Listeria and get meningitis you could end up retarded, have fun playing Rawssian Roulette

I will say, growing up in a communist third world country and nearly starving to death makes you appreciate meat a whole lot more. I get super happy after butchering a bone-in ribeye primal into steaks or making my own home-made sausages, almost brings tears to my eyes. Starvation makes you appreciate food, specially meat. I don't get the white people part though, most hunters I know, are white and they aren't afraid of butchering an animal carcass. I am also of a white complexion. But I do agree, the OP could be just a little bit less fussy about handling his meat :)

You are entertaining at the least. The more "pussified" people are, the better for studs like us. RTFO !

the same way I know when someone is complaining about their iPhone they aint from India

white people growing up today lack any mental fortitude at all. Its the reason so many white women have fantasies of big black men ravishing them. White men and young people are becoming so pussified.

… or stay vegetarian. If you have access to pastured eggs and raw, grass fed dairy, you are already in a good position. You could also eat insects, which are far more nutritious than meat. No cuties are killed on this diet.

I was in the same position. It was so embarrassing to always ask my girlfriend to handle my meat.

I mean, she touched my meat for me. Nothing wrong with that right? ;-)

But all innuendos aside, relying on my girl to touch the meat was all it took to make me get over that shit. It was rough at first. I would wash my hands like 16 times during food preparation if raw meat was anywhere near me and constantly freak out over any bit of juice that got on the counter/sink/utensil/other surface. I'm getting better though. Just realize that cooking the food and sterilizing the surfaces at the end help - but even that's not necessary with good meat. Believe it or not you could munch the stuff raw and not get sick most of the time.

Might use rubber gloves to start out. I found it comforting and yet was still able to kind of feel the texture.

Now days I'll handle my own meat, thank you very much... Another plus is that my girlfriend is more eager than ever to handle the other meat.

My wife has never been a vegetarian and she is grossed out by raw chicken and probably most raw meats. That is why I do the cooking and we are all better off, because I can cook.

Try taking a local cooking class, maybe being with peers will help you motivate.

You might want to ask your butcher to mince the meat, and then divide it into small portions, which you can keep in the freezer and defrost as needed. This way you don't have to handle the meat too much, and it's practical.

Nothing wrong with sticking to fish and seafood! Certainly better than most folks' obcession with nothing but chicken!

depends on your issue. Are you grossed out? Is is a matter of respect for the animal?

In the latter case, I say a prayer of respect or mantra as I handle the meat.

In the former case, tough it outa few times, you will get over it.
