The post about MCT oil is old. Any newer info on best products at best prices? I'm ready to try it.

I like a "coconut latte" after dinner. I brew decaf espresso in my stovetop espresso maker with a sprinkle of cinnamon on the grounds, meanwhile I heat 1/4 cup of coconut milk with 2tsp of coconut oil and froth them with my little hand frother, pour in the espresso and sprinkle on a little more cinnamon. Divine!

Oh big whoop. Coconut oil is made made too. You won't find coconut oil growing on trees. You'll only find coconuts. Ditto olive oil.

Absolutely! (on the cinnamon) People don't realize that cinnamon alone tastes sweet. I eat my sweet potatoes (in moderation of course!) drenched in ghee and cinnamon. Saigon Cinnamon is the absolute best cinnamon. And it is great for keeping blood sugar in check, which isn't usually an issue on this Paleo diet. I favor Lindt 90% but I just made my coffee chocolate in my little mason jar with 100% chocolate, cinnamon, and ghee. I use a huge mug in the morning, so I put a TBLS in the bottom, and add the hot coffee. Of course my "creamer" is that beautiful, creamy coconut milk (canned) that I mix with unsweetened vanilla coconut milk and meh-wah! I am in coffee love. I think I shall try the NOW brand MCT. Ideally, getting a multi-pack deal on Amazon would be nice.

You've just got to shop around. I like to use MCT oil in smoothies because coconut oil clumps and its like drinking little balls of wax. But I don't drink smoothies often enough to justify the price of MCT oil. My BPC is half ghee, half coconut oil, and a little coconut milk.

@ShellyMarie (this was a comment in reply to one of the answers but paleohacks is not working, hanging on the submit button again.)

I'm not sure how the pharmaceutical vs non grades differ, but it is a decent price for that size, so that's what I grabbed. I honestly didn't see too much difference between it and using just coconut oil. And no fat loss effects there, but then, I have sleep issues that I've yet to resolve, so YMMV.

I've dropped chocolate in coffee and it's good. The little Lindt dark chocolate truffle balls were awesome for this, until they started adding barley extract. These days, I just add a teaspoon of cocoa powder into the bulletproof coffee with some cinnamon. Doesn't need sweetening.

Zach, I am on a budget, and even on sale that product is more than I want to spend. I am in the initial stages of using it so I have to shop around. I get that it's sold by and endorsed by the Bulletproof Exec guy, but my wallet has bullet holes in it. Bah-hahaha...I crack myself up.

Yeah..that's what I meant dawg lol. It's ironic that i just commented on another post, and it addressed the gallbladder and coffee concoction. I had a 0% functioning gallbladder and it sent my liver and pancreas into overdrive. So like anything in my life that serves no purpose it's gone (-: Now, I do take a digestive aid with ox bile and many other wonderful ingredients. I can eat Paleo to my heart's content. My former caveman partner is all about the bulletproof coffee, although I have been drinking my coffee like this for some time sans MCT. He just made fun of my "white" coffee as it was half "full fat" coconut milk and either melted ghee or coconut oil. I like to add my 90% chocolate (with a dash of cinnamon to "sweeten" it) now and then. I love mochas, but not a fan of sweet drinks unless it's tea with a bit of honey. I have stubborn tummy fat to attack so I am going to introduce the mct. I did see the NOW 32oz one and did a Google search for other options. I don't think pharmaceutical grade is necessary. Thoughts?

upgradedself.com, best MCT oil on the market. Period. But like everyone said, START SLOW, this stuff is literally 6x stronger than coconut oil and is pure short chain fats that turn almost directly into ketones by the liver right away, be really slow adjusting with this... i was an idiot the first time and took probably 2-3tbsp of shots of it and my whole intestines were crying like crazy for 2 hours... it was BAD

Just because it's old doesn't mean it isn't wrong. What are you really asking that isn't in the "old" answers? If you want to try it, search for it at your local health food stores, or go on line to places like amazon. I use Now MCT oil, for example.

If you look at coconut oil about half of it is MCTs. To extract them, they heat it up and put it in a centrifuge. If you want cheap(er), go with straight up coconut oil. Now MCT oil is made with MCTs from both palm and coconut, so coconut isn't the only source.

The magic is that MCTs get sent to our livers and get turned into ketones, so by consuming them, we can quickly enter ketosis and get a bunch of quick energy.

It's also useful for folks who no longer have gallbladders because their evil surgeons recommended they be removed the first time there was a gallstone, and of course they don't tell them they'll need to take digestive enzymes before each meal for the rest of their lives to do what their gallbladders used to do because they unnecessarily removed them so they could profit.

Most commonly MCTs are used to make Bulletproof coffees. You don't have to buy the magic beans from him, nor the oil. You could replace some of the butter with coconut oil, and thus, not need actual MCT oil and still get most of the same effect. Whatever you do, don't sweeten it!

Like any other fat, if you consume too much too quickly, you'll be visiting the nearest bathroom for hours. Don't chug the stuff, start with a teaspoon at a day and work your way up to a tablespoon or two. It's might be a good idea to take digestive enzymes which contain oxbile if you're not fat adapted yet if you plan on doing bulletproof coffee.

I researched it briefly until I saw this "Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are partially man-made fats." Stopped me in my paleo tracks.

Although it is the only one I have tried, I really like the Upgraded MCT Oil that Dave Asprey is selling on upgradedself.com
