Daily Magnesium supplementation leads to crazy chocolate cravings 22 hours later?

I was browsing some chocolate craving questions and the inevitable "you're low on magnesium!" answers come up.

I'm NOT low on Magnesium because I take my tolerance dose each night as NaturalCalm fizz. After dinner but before bed is when I feel like I "have" to have chocolate. Dark, dark, dark stuff, for the record: 90%.

But as I pondered this, I began to wonder - am I craving chocolate after dinner because I'm EXPECTING the big hit of Magnesium right before bed? Whoa.

Am I on to something? Does my nighttime dose of magnesium each day work itself out of my system in less than 24 hours to explain why I need/want the "re-up" each night?

I'm working on the supplement angle, after dinner and sometimes earlier. There could also be some hormones acting up. Will be back with updates....

Ah, thank you. I *do* know that I am ridiculously low on iron/ferritin and all of those animal-happy vitamins do tend to run in packs, as it were.

I love natural calm for when I need help sleeping, but not sure I'd assume that because you're taking it every night, you're not low on magnesium. I would try another form, like unbuffered mag glycinate, for a few weeks and see if that cuts back on your cravings. You could also take the glycinate in the morning and go on using the Natural Calm at night.

And sometimes chocolate cravings are due to other mineral deficiencies, like zinc and/or copper.
