Why can eating low carb produce hypothyroidism?

I have been looking around here and haven't really found a specific answer to my question. Why do hypothyroid patients do better with more carbs? What exactly does our body (and thyroid) require them for? I'd like to know the scientific proccesses and if you can provide any links that would he great as well.

I just wanna straighten out why people can get hypothyroid and ways to prevent it by knowing our body mechanisms.

Thanks!

Personally, as someone with low thyroid function, I think that is a dangerous game to play.

Where does he say that it does not? The one reference I saw to it was that Rosedale admitted that low carb does lower T3. He also mentions that lowering thyroid function results in longevity (which is true, AFAIK), so apparently he thinks that lower thyroid function is a desirable effect of low-carb.

I didn't find much in this MDA article on the connection between carbs and thyroid function. Plenty of other good info though.

It does not. Dr. Rosedale talks about it in all his safe starch blog posts.. http://drrosedale.com/blog/2012/08/18/a-conclusion-to-the-safe-starch-debate-by-answering-four-questions/
