New to Whole 30

Hi, I'm on my 3rd day of the paleo diet and feel like I have an empty hole in my stomach. I also feel weak and shakey. In general I eat well, similar but with some brown rice or quinoa so it's not like it's a huge change, but with just meat and vegetables I feel off balance and shakey and sometimes get heart flutters. Just wondering if paleo is good for all metabolic types because in the past I've been told I was the type that needs equal amounts of grains and meat. But I've been having digestive problems and really want to be on this diet and heal my digestive tract.

Would appreciate any info or advice.

Thanks, Janet

By the by, I'm kayell over on the W30 form. It's my first W30, although I was low-carb paleo going in so didn't have too much trouble adjusting. What you're going through is really common, and you'll get through it. A good guide to the typical progression on a W30 is http://whole9life.com/2012/06/the-whole30-timeline/

You might need to add some fat (take a look at the W30 recs), you might need some salt, you could eat part of a sweet potato at each meal. See the link from Moonblaze below for good info on low-carb flu.

There is no "type" of human that needs grains. The whole type thing is pretty much BS.

Or both. Very common.

This is likely. It's also possible she isn't eating enough. W30 recommends at least 1-2 thumb size portions of fat at every meal. For some people the eat fat idea is hard to get used to.

Ooops, I meant I'm on my 4th day, well, I've finished my fourth day. Also wanted to add that the empty hole in my stomach is causing some large belches, so I think it is literally an empty hole, or a big bubble or something.

It doesn't sound like you are eating enough fat. Try a sweet potato with loads of butter or coconut butter and then tell me how you feel.

hi and welcome! as to your transition, i think you'd be surprised how much different simple "eating healthy" with grains is to your body to paleo eating. on day 4, you are just getting into the transition! hang in there!

as far as being told your "type," i assume you are referring to the Blood Type Diet? correct me if i am wrong, but i believe that science has been debunked by Loren Cordain. worth looking into, anyways.

good luck, and don't give up!!!

I felt like this (and was adapting from similar diet to you). What are you eating for breakfast? I found a, substantial, protein-heavy breakfast really helped (I have a ground turkey, veggie and egg scramble, cooked in coconut oil).

If you are certain you've been getting enough fat and overall are eating enough, like Moonablaze said, the carb flu is a likely culprit. The Whole 30 site has a great timeline showing what you might feel like on each day, as you adjust to a life free of processed stuff-
