Fell off paleo wagon, back on, will I experience low carb flu again?

When I first began the paleo diet I had major detox or @low carb flu" symptoms for a full three weeks. Intense. I fell off the bandwagon (had PMS and major cravings). It's been maybe 3 weeks non paleo diet. Now that I am back to eating paleo, will I again experience the detox/low carb flu. I hate eating non paleo. May I never slip like this again!

Thanks, Mia

To a degree, maybe. However, by experiencing it before your body will acquire some flexibility with a change in energy sources.

While I don't advocate falling off the wagon, I would say it's actually smart to give your body a change of pace every once in awhile. If that means going from a VLC Paleo to a few days of pretty high-carb Paleo, so be it. If it means going from a very high-carb/starch Paleo and just going into Ketosis for a few days, so be it.

It's very important to be able to handle all scenarios and know you can adapt to anything. It makes the unpredictability of life very manageable.

This has never been an issue for me, so I'm not speaking from experience.

It would seem, though, that you could just switch to eating a high carb Paleo diet (lots of potato, swt potato, squash, fruit) and just taper it to a low carb program.

i went on vacation for a week and ate SO much non-paleo food. french toast, beer, cookies. i pretty much binged for a week straight and went crazy.

i'm now experiencing my worst ever low carb flu after only being off paleo for a week.

it probably varies for every person, but i didn't expect this at all!!

It's definitely a "your mileage may vary" situation. I've fallen off the paleo wagon many times, sometimes for a full six weeks before I got back on again. (And sometimes, I was hanging onto the wagon for dear life!) I've had times where I haven't experienced low carb flu and all, and sometimes just a little bit. Nothing was ever as bad as the first time, though. Once again, that's just my own experience. Hard to know what will happen with you. Hang in there!!
