I am trying to get into paleo lifstyle and recently I had an argument with my gf. She likes my chest smooth and insists on me removing all hair. Is this allowed or advised?

Have you considered also giving up the deodorant?

Is this a serious question? Dr. Kurt makes fun of radical paleo re-enactors, but they just imitate the H.G. lifestyle. I've never heard of anyone who thought you have to _look_ like a caveman. What possible reason could there be for keeping body hair if you prefer to shave?

It's only paleo if you remove your chest hair by getting it stuck in the la brea tar pit. ;)

Your GF insists you remove all your hair (or is it just on your chest)???? Wow, do you insist she removes all of hers?

My husband is an avid meat-eater, is bald, has hair on his chest, back and the top of his feet, but you know, even if he didn't, he would still look (and feel) like a caveman to me ;) I really don't insist that he do anything to change himself, that's up to him, after all there's no point hiding it.

This is interesting though:

Yanonami

As with many other native Americans of tropical South America, the Yanomami traditionally wore essentially no clothing. The sole exception to this was a string-like belt worn by the men, into which the foreskin of the penis would be clamped. As with many other tribes, body hair was considered repugnant and would usually be plucked out.

Some Notes on the Pawumwa Indians of South America by JD Haseman - 1912 -

Itinerary of I907 and I9I0, with areas occupied by primitive tribes. ..... They pluck the hairs from the arm-pits, groin, eyebrows, and eyelashes; in fact no hairs were seen excepting the long hair of their heads. ...

Lakhota:

Among some South- east tribes, men plucked out their hair with shell tweezers and tattooed themselves with de- signs representing exploits in war

Well, what do YOU want? I mean, it's YOUR body.

Personally, speaking as a female, I LIKE a bloke with his natural hair. It actually squicks me out a bit when guys pluck/shave/denude themselves.

From an evolutionary standpoint, our body hair is a sexual turn on: it holds your scent and chest hair is (usually!) distinctly male. It makes sense to me that we females would be attracted to signs of manliness in Grok: broad shoulders, narrow hips, visible muscles, body hair, as signs of your reproductive ability.

But it comes back to what YOU wanna do. If you dig the slippery smooth look then keep shaving and don't worry about it being Paleo. If you'd really rather go natural then I'd just tell her, frankly, that that's what you'd like to do and why.

My husband gets to do whatever he wants with his own hair. I might prefer it one way but it's HIS hair and I love him however he feels like being, y'know? :)
