I think the next step in research is going to be how certain foods effect synaptic transmission and our genome. Several basic science researchers are beginning to realize just how complex our brain is in response of certain foods. It also explains the reasons why there is so much variability in people with respect to different foods. When you are here on paleo hacks its obvious that there is a bell curve distribution of how certain foods effect certain people. Its as if the brain food continuum acts like an equalizer does for sound. The levers of the equalizers are akin to informational substances. One effects the quality of the sound and the quality of the food for the brain. If one adds a little less serotonin and more testosterone, a bit less endorphins we can have a "a made barking dog" on our hands......and then if we more serotonin we then have a "a lap dog" looking for comfort. The adaptability of our brain to food and the resultant outcomes is a huge factor for paleo living. It appears the adaptation clearly effects our neurotransmitters and our synaptic chemistry in all lobes of the brain but perhaps no where more important than at our hypothalamus where leptin signalling and insulin effects collide.

I'm interested in this topic myself. My son has autism and I am very interested in the ways that proper diet can serve as treatment for this condition and help him to keep under control more than he is. No doubt. It's quite interesting on days I where get 80% of fat from butter. Coal into the fire. Very distinct feeling and intense focus. Sleep patterns change i.e. need considerably less sleep.
It seems to be unique to butter and independent of my protein intake which fluctuates as well as CHOs which are > 50g < 100g.
When fiddling with macronutrient ratios and making them more "paleo" I still feel great but I loose the intense focus and sleep patterns and return to something more normal. That is without the starchy vegetables and no fruit.
I know last time I read you were pretty close to OD ratios. Have you noticed a change in brain quality when you change the proportions of the types of fat you eat e.g. sat or mono?
