Anyone supplement with pregnenolone? What are your results/side effects?

Though I eat strict paleo I cannot get the weight to move. I've been reading about adrenal fatigue, leptin-resistance, hormonal imbalances etc. and often come across recommedations to supplement with pregenenolone to get the hormonnal systems back in balance.

Have any here tried this? If so, what is your experience? Or Should I just stay away from such experimentation - is it dangerous and going to do more damage in the end?

It's to improve upon my piggyback skills - actually I'm banking on it making me a GENIUS - I had no idea it was good for pain...

Other supplements I take are fermented cod liver oil, b vitamins, vitamin D3, vitamin E. Have played with protein/fat ratios to no avail. My skin is beautiful, great head of hair, bright eyes, great circulation, good BP, I test blood sugar and usually runs in the 70s to 90s sometimes a spike to 110. Usually energetic, but notice dramatic loss of strength over past two years. Fat to muscle ratio seems to be tipping in wrong direction.

I eat very clean. No dairy, no grains, etc., but the weight won't move. Don't gain, which is a plus, but don't lose and I'm obese at 5'9" 250 pound (I don't weigh, because it is just depressing) my clothes don't get looser and I can look in the mirror and see. I am low estrogen (48 yrs old) and take low estrogen BC to manage this. I would rather not be on BC, but can't figure out how to get off without enduring the low estrogen problems. In PA can't do blood work without a docs order and have not found a good doc to work with. I'm thinking of traveling out of state.

I have some at the same dose - I only take a couple a week. Why are you taking it?

I am currently supplementing with pregnenalone, 50 mg/day. No effects thus far, but it has only been like a week or so.

The recommended pregnenalone dosages vary depending on the reason you are taking it. Why are you thinking about taking it?

I personally will only do a short trial of perhaps a month's duration, even though I bought a billion pills to get free shipping on Amazon. Reason being that it is a hormone (duh) that can screw some stuff up. I do not want to increase my chances of losing hair, developing acne, etc etc. Most doctors don't know anything about pregnenalone, some love it, and some caution against it. From what little I read, I think it's a worth a try for certain conditions, while keeping caution in mind. Not a panacea, but a possible temporary help.

Laura, have you had any testing done to indicate Adrenal fatigue or hormonal imbalances?

Can you give us a bit of info on your diet perhaps thats a better place to start rather than going for meds.....
