Why can't I get in Ketosis?

Hello, for over a week I have not entered Ketosis, any ideas why not? I thought if I only ate meat, I should enter Ketosis but only a few times just "trace". I have only lost 2 lbs as well. I weigh 250lb.

I chose to only eat meats for the first two weeks ,mostly hamburger meat and bacon, plus I have College Inn chicken broth a few times a day. I am very picky so the only veg I eat, is a little lettuce and take vitamins. Carbs are under 25 a day. All advice is appreciated.

I also feel like since you were 250 lbs you were eating quite a lot of carbs. Meaning it'll take longer to get into ketosis than someone with less carbs in their diet. It took me two weeks to get into ketosis after starting low carb this past time and it was because I had been binging on carbs and sugar. Paleot is basically a genius, and I agree with him. I worked up to a stick of butter a day on the beginning to get keto adapted. It might not hurt to start fasting for 16 hours a few times a week to get your insulin sensitivity up. Itll help get you adapted faster along with weightlifting.

You're probably eating too much protein. Stay away from lean protein sources like tuna and egg whites. Go for fattier options. Excess protein can be converted into glucose. It's also bad for your kidneys.

And vary your diet a little bit. Try adding stuff like avocados, olives, and nuts. Fry some eggs in coconut oil or butter and douse what little vegetables you eat with olive oil. A little cream in your coffee wouldn't hurt, either (provided you're not lactose-intolerant like me).

I agree with paleot. You're probably converting those proteins into carbs. Up your fat and as paleot suggested, look into blood testing. One more thing. You mentioned you ate collagen soup a few times a day. That's 6 grams of protein/tbs. So you might be od'ing on protein (for keto purposes) and that's something you can only test. Eliminate one thing at a time and read as many posts/success stories/examples and plans as you can find.

That doesn't sound very sustainable, living on bacon and burgers with a little lettuce on top and calling it a ketogenic paleo diet. You might want to try upping your fat intake to 8-10 tablespoons a day or more.

Look into blood testing for BHB so you can determine your mmol/L concentration.
