Should I try to get into ketosis?

I've been on a potato binge lately...I've consumed roughly 15-20 pounds worth of sweet potatoes, yams, and white potatoes over the past week. I mentally can't seem to avoid them.

Should I just try to quit cold turkey for a week or so? and slowly add them back in?

Should you quit carbs cold turkey from that amount? Your body will not like you. It wouldn't be sustainable.

If you are young and active, 2.5 lbs. of roots per day is not going to hurt you.

No. Ketosis is no place for someone with carb cravings.

Unless you have a compelling reason for being in ketosis, then it's going to be tough to go from 20lbs of sweet potato to much less than 50g of carb total in a day (and probably also restricted protein).

Not sure what the benefit is. At best, you'll just give yourself a bad case of the low-carb flu for a week, before going back on to the potatoes.

Humans don't necessarily crave things that are good for them and it sounds like you are craving carbs. I recommend starting to count your carb intake and beginning to reduce it gradually. Taking digestive enzymes can help. Make sure you are getting enough fat and salt too. Green veggies and berries are good and low-carb, but staying away from all these starchy high carb foods is important. Have you gone dairy and gluten-free?

If that's what your craving, your body probably needs it. Give your body what it needs right now instead of restricting and it'll go away. I really wanted almond butter and banana but I kept restricting and it put weight on. Finally I just ate te damn treat and didn't cut my self short even if it was too much. I haven't craved almond butter or banan in 4 months. Your carb cravings will subside. Their natural if you are really active. Maybe mix it up and add berries too. For some reason my body does so much better with berries and coconut milk compared to sweet potato (it just bloats).

If your concerned with the overheating of carbs maybe get a scale and weigh your food so you have an idea of how many carbs your actually consuming. This helps me a lot. I think," wow I can have two of these potatoes for 50g of carbs? Score!" its mentally satisfying. Good luck!
