ketosis and chronic respiratory infections

Hi, Ive been eating mostly paleo (but not VLC ketogenic) for several months now and feel okay but have had recurrent upper respiratory tract infections since having sinus surgery 3 months ago. Needed 5 bouts of antibiotics and just recovering from pneumonia...I'm toying with the idea of going ketogenic..changing macronutrients to mostly good fats and moderate protein low/no carbs.. My concern is with acidity of the body going full ketogenic with no little fibrous carbs from green leafys. Is is possible to be ketogenic AND be alkaline as well?

Chances are your gut flora got wiped out by the antibiotics they likely gave you when you had your surgery. Fermented foods & probiotics will help.

Also, get your Vitamin D status checked & sun/supplement to 60-80 ng/ml.

I wouldn't necessarily go vlc right now, just because it can be stressful in the short-term & your body really needs a break!

I also wouldn't be concerned about ketosis/alkalinity. Your body has to keep your pH within a good range or you would die. Make sure you get replete in micronutrients by eating nutrient dense foods like liver, bone broth, eggs, etc.
