Help, starting Metformin, ketosis questions

When should I take it? With or without food? Best foods to get me deep into ketosis fast? Do I eat tons of fats or try to keep it at a certain calorie range. I'm 43, female 5'10" 225 lbs, years of yogo dieting. Been 80% Paleo/Primal for several months. Got all my supplements in order; magnesium,d3,k2, potassium, melatonin etc. I do not have PCOS and am taking it purely as an assist in weight loss as I am highly insulin resistant. Don't know anyone who has taken it. Anyone who can let me know what to expect would be greatly appreciated. Also once i get deep in ketosis can I then fast for long periods of time and still take the metaformin to stay fat burning? This does not want me to put this question in the tags "how long can I fast once deep in ketosis and what are the minimum amounts of fats to stay in ketosis if I'm eating no carbs.

The metfomin is a good idea for weight loss, but I hope when using it you are really watching other factors like your BUN/creat ratio and you Magnesium status. Metformin will deplete Mag levels and even if you replenish it it will not work if you are dehydrated because Magnesium is a hydrophilic cation. We speak about this at length in the EMF and quantum biology blogs and on some of my recent webinars. Your motivation and lack of weight loss strongly point to a low brain dopamine level at a foundational level. I wrote about this in Brain Gut 11, Brain Gut 16, and in the Dopamine Rx blog.

The dose you use is important and the time you take it should be based upon your ASI and salivary melatonin at your outset to maximize its effect. Good Luck.

Not a pharmacist, or doctor... you should talk to one/both about implementing a ketogenic diet with any medication. Never know when they contraindicated. I don't think they are, but you should be sure.
