Hack my weird vomiting feeling followed by burst of energy

Answered on August 19, 2014

This has happened to me a few times. I suddenly felt sick at work and ready to vomit. I went outside to get some air and thought I was going to ralph all over company property. Within 5 minutes, the feeling vanished and now I feel better than I have all day. My body seems to have kicked into a euphoric state of super-ketosis. This has happened a few times before, but I'm not sure what triggers it. Anyone have similar experiences?

Is this my body's way of telling me to eat more carbs? I am VLC and for a while was eating mostly meat, some greens, and no fruit. I have added more veggies recently.

Welcome to pure awesomeness. Nausea is a small price to pay for that amazing energy!

Coconut oil does that to me. Are you eating it? Otherwise I'd say super ketosis and if that's the case it will get better (assuming you are relatively new to ketosis?)

Joe it might be helpful to people if you post more specifics, a days foods and quantities, your weight, height and any other pertinent information to go on....somethings off here...are you on meds or herbal supplements? wondering if they might be clashing with something...

I don't use ketostix or anything, but I'm pretty sure I'm in Ketosis because I eat mostly meat and green vegetables. I don't track calories or %'s, but I am probably in the VLC camp. I don't think I'm under eating; I only eat twice a day, but they are two big meals, and my exercising mainly consists of walking...nothing strenuous.

Here's my guess: Vomiting or near vomiting for any reason is stressful, the burst of energy was an adrenalin rush/endorphin high.

Sounds like hypoglycemia followed by an adrenalin rush. Basically your blood sugar dipped super low which made you feel like throwing up until your body finally made glucose from protein releasing adrenalin/cortisol, hence the energetic feeling.

I suffered from this so badly as a child/teenager - terrible nausea in the lunch queue at school or worse, the morning after partying with friends I'd wake early, not eat, no-one else would wake till noon, I'd still not eat, be hanging over the toilet-bowl sure I was about to throw up when suddenly that nausea would completely disappear, not leaving me euphoric sadly, but feeling dreadful. In fact I now go to huge lengths to avoid any kind of blood-sugar lows of this sort - regularly eating plenty of top-quality protein and fat, and cutting out processed carbs, though not going too LC has done wonders for this problem but it does put me off ever fasting for long. Maybe I'd become used to it but I can't forget how terrible it felt, glad I'm not the only one.

Was this preceded by zinc supplementation on an empty stomach? made that mistake a few times.

I suspect that this isn't due to a euphoric state of super ketosis, but rather due to the fact that, at least in my experience, if you feel sick and vomit or nearly vomit then you normally feel a lot better afterwards, even if you don't actually vomit anything up. I don't know what the hormonal explanation for that is, but it seems a more likely explanation. Now all you need to explain is the random nausea. I'd probably suspect that it's just a bug or something. You're unlikely to get any weird symptoms just because your diet doesn't have enough bread in it anymore.

If you're new to ketosis, it's not uncommon to have low blood sugar nausea at first. Once you're body is keto-adapted you won't notice it at all and the great feeilng will be continuous.

I generally find that entering ketosis after a long time out (months) upsets my GI tract initally, but if I go in and out on a regular basis, I don't even notice it.
