Do I need to be in ketosis to lose weight?

I was enjoying being paleo while eating an average of 50-65 carbs/day with no grain. Then I talked to someone who said I had to eat no more than 20/day and must be in ketosis to lose weight of course I decided to try it. Well I was no longer enjoying the way I ate. My stomach was no longer happy either. So do I need to eat that low in carbs to still lose weight?

Reasonable could be considered subjective and is dependent on your goals. E.G. a 800lb morbidly obese person may want to run a significantly greater deficit than a house wife wanting to lose a few pounds.

I personally think a 1000 calorie deficit is upper end of what people should do without professional supervision. Granted a few hundred is quite a bit more comfortable.

No, fat loss happens at a (reasonable) calorie deficit
