Biological mechanism that improves brain function during Ketosis

I have read a bit about how ketosis improves brain function via production of some hormone, ligand, or something along those lines.

I am interested in what exactly is going on to cause this, as well as, the biochemistry behind it.

If someone knows of a credible link and/or information resource, a study in regards to this, or anything else pertaining to it, would you please post a link. (And, if you would like to explain it, that would be great too.)

Heya Charlie- mmm, mostly it seemed to make a great deal of sense. Paleo is supported by research and through self-experimentation I have personally seen its impact. I had some chocolate yesterday and got quite ill later, come to find out it had traces of gluten! -.-

Hey Allie. You seem to respond to the same kind of questions I would. What's your reason for going paleo?

I'm sure I have school access via my University (well, at least until May). I'll try to look into it. Though, I also like having a 'hard copy' to keep in someway. Again, thanks for the link.

It also helps that I want to be a naturopath too ;). I just want to start learning about it all now.

Do you just have access to the public items, or do you have some sort of school access for the papers that are subscription only?

allie you are smart to do so.....the more knowledge you have the more you can help your doc be a better health care advocate for yourself. I just hope docs are more receptive to an open relationship. I love patients that are engaged and excited to retain their health

Thanks Dr. K, I'll see if my library has them or if I can get them cheap of Amazon. I recently bought a biochem book to learn more about our physiology in general but I don't think it is geared toward the process I asked about. Thank you for the suggestions!

http://www.phschool.com/science/science_news/articles/ketones_to_the_rescue.html was a fun read for me. It also talks about ketones effects on the heart.
