Anyone else get a rash when they are in ketosis?

While messing with nutritional ketosis the past couple months I developed a rash all over my trunk that seemed to wax and wane with the amount of carbs I ate!

After some research I found out that this is called Prurigo Pigmentosa, a condition that not many people know about (even dermatologists).

I just wanted to see if anyone else out there in this community experienced the same thing.

I wrote a post about my experience with it and my findings in the scientific literature if you want to learn more.

Actually it's gotten a lot better since I saw her (my dermo) about a month ago; I've been on the road and eating more carbs than before, and I think I am going to cancel the biopsy.

Maybe you can see if upping the carbs will help before going for the biopsy. Mine seriously started improving the day after I downed a slice of cheesecake and had some sushi the night before.

I do get a scaly red rash when In ketosis or VLC but it only seems to appear on my forehead or just inside my left eyebrow. Increasing carbs seems to make it go away. Mine looks more like irritated skin than pronounced bumps. It would also have a burning sensation when Id go into salt water.

Holy crap. I think you just diagnosed something I've had for years that no dermatologist could ever figure out. In fact I'm scheduled for a "punch" biopsy in a few weeks (it's as pleasant as it sounds). Mine looks exactly like your photos.

I talked to Paul Jaminet about dermatitis that I experienced going very low-carb, and he said it's a sign of malnourishment due to lack of good quality carbs in the form of starch.

Thanks for sharing! I don't know anything about it and I did not develop anything strange on all meat diet, but I am off it now (and I did not plan to stay for a long time to begin with).

I only know about Xanthomas:

How much red meat did you consume?

I would have guessed the rash is a reaction to Candida die off, a consequence of a VLC diet.
