If you are a supplement user are you happy with Senator Durbin's plan to allow big pharma take control?

The FDA and Senator Durbin???s latest attack against the dietary supplement industry should leave consumers for natural health options at affordable prices up in arms. This attack will target some of the most popular and effective dietary supplements, removing them from the free market and placing them under control of large pharmaceutical companies. This move will drastically drive up the price of dietary supplements while severely limiting access to extremely safe and effective nutrients. For example, the GlaxoSmithKline prescription drug version of DHA fish oil (LOVAZA) sells for $189 a month in most pharmacies, whereas the equivalent, therapeutic amount of molecularly-distilled DHA sells for $35 a month in the dietary supplement marketplace. Proven to lower triglyceride levels at therapeutic amounts, it is not surprising that DHA is one of the first nutrients the FDA plans to go after. Other powerful nutrients, such as curcumin and resveratrol, are soon to follow.

If you are not happy about this I would encourage you to visit the following site and send a letter to Durbin and voice your opinion. I have emailed this out to all my patients and I thought you guys maybe able to make it viral through the paleo community. Thanks.

Hmm. I believe this question should have stayed open. It's just gonna come up again very soon. Quilt is asking the Paleo community to speak up however they'd like. If we can't speak about this here, that's a win for the wrong side I think. Just my take.

What if Quilt had worded the question as, "Do you oppose government regulation of supplements?" That would have been a real question.

Sorry. I shouldn't have written the above. Look Heather makes a good point. Some of these issues do not fit nicely into partisan politics. I am a Socialist (a real one, not one of those Dems that Republicans like to call socialist but who aren't). I would usually side with a lot of things Liberals do. However, I am of course totally opposed to this bill.

I don't consider this political in the same way that some other policies are, I would hate this bill no matter which senator/s were involved. It was just a huge bonus that it was Dick Durbin because I love calling him a Dick because he is, not because he's a lib <3

because implicitly this is an overstep of govt. Our country has a balance of power.......big pharma is paying Durbin and his cohorts to get the power back from the people......The people have a right to know and speak up if they so chose.

Don't be so sure of the "big" Quilt. I think he's compensating for something ;)

Random trivia: I almost bought the domain name "lovazascam.com" a couple years ago. I think it's still available, for anyone looking to stir the pot (and potentially get sued)...

I upvoted this because it's entirely appropriate in my opinion as a topic. That said, it's political and wonder why no objections were posted by the moderators in this regard. The link was obviously biased (no offense Quilt, this is not against your post. I am just calling in to question some of the uneven applications of the law.)
