Is Tahini really anti-Paleo?

I eat about 2 tbs of Tahini a day, along with a tad of honey for something Halva like. The nutritional data shows 3.5g omega 6 PUFA per tbs for 7g fat per day that I'm getting. I'm destroying my Paleo diet, huh? Doesn't seem like I could eat enough olive oil, grass fed meat, and fish oil to make up for that!

Eh. I still have blepharitis, which is sort of an inflammatory disorder.

I don't eat other nuts though I do get some from spices in trace quantities (mustard seed, black pepper, etc). I add ~1tbs of hemp seeds to my tahini typically but the ratio isn't quite as bad for them.

Stress is definitely not paleo. Unless you are actually being chased by a lion!

Tahini actually hates Paleo. J/K, I think there are much worse things that you can eat than sesame seed paste and as long as you're not pounding jars of it, and making a point to keep your 03 intake up, you should be fine.

Well, 8oz of salmon has about 5 grams of n3. It's not that hard to balance out the tahini, as long as you are not overdosing on mayonaisse, canola oil, nuts, etc.

It's best (at least in paleo theory) to keep total PUFA around 4% or less of total calories.

You hear people say that n6:n3 ratios should be 1:1 or 2:1 to be optimal. But it seems that ratios anywhere from 4:1 to 1:4 are commonly found in healthy hunter-gatherer populations. Of course, the Inuit had a ratio of like 1:20, but had a bit of a problem with nose bleeds. It's wrong to think that n6 is bad - it just that modern processed foods have so much of it that the balance gets out of whack - leading to chronic systemic inflammation. An appropriate inflammation response is healthy and necessary. If you want, plug in all your food for a day into something like FitDay and see what your ratios are and what your total consumption of PUFA is. Then you can make adjustments as you see fit.

No worse than most other nut butters. They're also high in omega-6s, so enjoy in moderation.

Don't sweat the numbers though. Obsessing over ratios and making sure you stay under magical "4%" allowances for PUFAs causes stress. Stress is definitely not paleo.

How is your diet otherwise, and how do you feel? And how much do you love daily tahini? If you love it, it doesn't seem to be impeding your goals, and your nutrtion is otherwise dialed in, I probably wouldn't worry about it just yet.
