Hacks for Extreme Leanness?

I am probably around 7% body fat now but it is summer time so I am trying to get even leaner. I IF weekly but was wondering if anyone has any tips.

If you can't see your abs at 7%, you need to take off your shirt. I second the suggestion for a bodypod or some other measuring device.

that's awesome, I am just jealous ;) although 7% on a 43 year old mom wouldn't work too well!!

Then you should just chill I think, you are really lean already, why bother when you don't need to? You probably look hawter than you think!

How do you know without testing? 7% is incredibly lean. Most people underestimate their body fat percentage.

already got the girlfriend thing down, and i'm not overly veiny at all at 7%.

That's what I was thinking! I KNOW I'm nowhere near 7% BF (I wish!), and my abs are starting to show through that last layer of chub-chub. Do some cable crunches.

I worked hard to get here. Over 2 years of diet and exercise. I was overweight and out of shape.

I know I am around 6-7%. I like to have my abs show, but would like them to show through more without flexing for summer Not really concerned about the actual % so won't invest in a test, just want to look better when I look in the mirror.

I agree with Claudia. I think you just have to flex & they show more than you seem to think they do. Trust me. 7% is an admirable amount - I'm at that amount too - & Thomas is right that to go lower would really be in body builder terrain. (Not you haven't built yourself an awesome body, but you know what I mean.. look at those bodybuilders & their weirdly stretched skin) Anyway, flaunt it man

Most women don't find sub 10% body fat attractive, don't men know that? It all gets too vascular looking at that stage - not indicative of optimal fertility.

Fair enough you might be doing it just for yourself, but I find the shredded look gross and most of my girlfriends would agree with me.

Your abs may pop out but the rest of you will look veiny.

I agree with L. Peltier/TacSavage. I kow I'm nowhere near 7% BF, but my abs are starting to show through that last layer of chubchub without my having to flex 'em. I can't WAIT to see what they look like at 7% BF. My girl won't be able to keep her hands off me.

Do some cable crunches man. Weighted ab exercises are your friend if you want them to show up without flexing. I know it's been said before, but they're just like any other muscle. Would you do 1000 curls a day with no weight?? Everyday?

I usually do kneeling cable crunches at around the 100-130# range, but standing works too at lower weights. I also do decline crunches with a weight plate on my chest, usually about 45# for my lower abs, or sometimes reverse decline crunch with weight. Try using a 30# medicine ball, crunch up on a decline bench, then blast the ball up at the top, catch it and control your reverse crunch on the way down.

And REST them. They need recovery just like your pecs or tri's.

You don't specify your current workout/eating routine but if your abs are not showing at 7% BF, my guess is you are not working out properly.

I think every one on here got a little freaked out. Maybe they're jealous of your 7% but none of these people offered any advice. I'd recommend walking on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. I do this a few times a week and I find it to do good. I've heard it enhances your bodies ability to uptake glycogen and so basically your body absorbes and digests everything all day. I personally am trying to get pretty low carb but after a 30-45 min walk in the morning, I have some carbs with my breakfast. Sometimes I also eat eggs and bacon and then go out walking. The idea is that my body will still be running on fat and protein as it did while I was asleep. I've been experiencing with these techniques and have gotten results. After switching to strict paleo a couple months ago and walking most mornings I was able to get rid of 7-8lbs of BF without losing much muscle.

My advice: EAT. What do you want? I believe 5 percent and below are dangerously low and should only be maintained for the time a bodybuilder is in a contest. Any lower and I believe your risk hormonal imbalances. Are you sure you are at 7 percent, because it doesn't sound like it. Why don't you invest in a bodpod session to see what your true bodyfat percentage is?
