Hello! I am hoping someone can offer me some clarity on blood sugar issues I'm experiencing. I have been doing the Autoimmune Paleo Protocol for the last 8 months and eat very clean. I do eat low glycemic fruit, sweet potatoes and lots of squash, as going too low carb has not been good for my thyroid and adrenals. I thought I was experiencing bouts of hypoglycemia due to Hashimotos/adrenal Fatigue, but my doctor informed me today that he is concerned about my recent panels, which do not indicate hypoglycemia but what he believes to be a potential beta cell defect that could be contributing to my fatigue and cognitive delays. My mother has type 1 diabetes and my father type 2, so I'm genetically predisposed for pancreatic problems. I was under the impression my low fasting insulin levels were due to being low carb and was upset to hear that it could be something worse. My recent labs were: fasting glucose 92 insulin <2.0 Hemoglobin A1C If someone would be so kind as to shed light on what this might mean or offer preventative advice, I would be so appreciative. I was having difficulty following my Dr. today, I guess I became fixated on the thought of developing diabetes. Thanks!
