What's with all the water?!?

So, since starting paleo ( bout 6 weeks ago) I thought I'd lean out way more than I have. I Was pretty light on carbs, no dairy, no processed food pre paleo. I feel like I'm holding a ton of water. I work out regularly ( not CF yet), drink lots of water, low or no caffeine. I'm frustrated at the " full ness" I'm getting. I may have been overdoing it on nuts so ive GREATLY reduced, working on eliminating those. I'm 5'4 122 w hormonal imbalances 37yo. This water retention is baffling to me. Does any one have any light to shed? I don't eat a lot of sodium and eat very clean. Could I be overdoing it on fats ???

Didn't for me, no. Doesn't for a lot of women. Made it worse for me. I take progesterone as I bled for 4 weeks straight and it's the only thing that cured it.

Shouldn't the diet fix the problem. Why do you need to take hormones?

5'4" and 122? What was your starting weight 6 weeks ago? I believe you that you're feeling bloated (especially if you have hormonal imbalances), but numbers-wise, it doesn't sound like you're hanging onto *that much* water. But you might be accustomed to a different body *composition,* too. You said you haven't leaned out as much as you thought you would. Just curious where you started from.

Were the nuts that you were eating salted at all? Are you taking any supplements?

Eating too much protein (in place of increasing fat intake) always makes me stupid thirsty, especially in the summer, and I end up drinking waaaaay too much water and throwing my electrolytes for a loop. That would be simple quick-fix issue. Another fix would be if this was caused by supplements- you'd need to be specific about which ones you are on.

The hormones are a little more delicate. I still have water retention and hormone related digestion issues that vary with my cycle. I am still sorting out the hormone issues, but probiotics help me to eliminate bloat, which can emphasize any water retention.

As for te nuts... I always eat raw unsalted.

I am taking supplements. Any that you know of to be problematic?? I do also take Ambien.

I was recently on Estrovera daily and progesterone 10 days / month but stopped because of how I was feeling ( constantly bloated like a tick) My period is erratic. My estrogen and testosterone are very low. I don't feel worse on paleo... But I don't feel remarkably better, yet my constant hunger has diminshed and im sated much lomger between meals . And a week after beginning paleo I got my period for 1st time in 10 months. Strange coincidence? I feel like I'm just jiggly and holding a ton of water especially in my stomach.

I've noticed that for women paleo reveals hidden hormonal problems, doesn't cure them. So in a sense you feel worse. I'd get your progesterone/estrogen ratios checked. You may need extra progesterone.

Try taking a potassium supplement, or get more potassium in your diet. My guess is you're deficient.
