Hack my hormonal options....

Hi everyone,

So I have had a huge change in hormones in the last 6 months. I was on Diane 35 (strong anti-androgen) pill for most of my life (PCOS history) and decided to go off and supplement with Bio-progesterone to see if I would have less crazy moods.

INfo: 27 yr Female - 5'9" 10 lbs from ideal body weight - medium build Diet: Morning post workout - egg whites/or egg white protein shake (has a little banana), lunch salad with chicken maybe an apple. Dinner a meat and a veg. Occasional weekend glass of wine or dark choco almonds or fruit indulgence (like pineapple heaven forbid the sugar lol) Training: 6 days per week - 2 with coach/trainer 1 hr long full body strength training, 2 cardio- walk/run 1-2 HIIT sessions. Meds/supplements: Bio identical Progesterone, Metformin, and Spironolactone (skin). Multi, Probiotic, fish oil, herbs for hormone balance DIM, cohosh etc, zinc, and herbs for adrenals.

Here is the result :

I have not had a period at all, but i feel better. MY workouts and and day to day moods have increased dramatically. I am stronger than i've ever been, and have not swung into moody/depressive states. (so that is GREAT)

However, physically appearance wise things have changed for the worse. I now have a different appearance, my upper body is larger (high body fat on my arms, shoulders and neck *i guess from the male hormones) As well just higher body fat % in general.

Compared to: When I was on the Pill - I was very lean up top, skinny arms and torso and more pear shaped.

I do not like the new appearance I have with these hormones. I prefer looking small on top, is my only option to go back on the Pill to achieve my preferred body composition?

I certainly want to choose the healthier option, however, I am not willing to have a higher bodyfat % and not feel confident if that is the case (which does not make sense to me)! If i am getting healthier by going off of the pill, why would my body look as though I am less healthy? (higher body fat)

Also, will any amount of training/diet ever lean me out with this natural hormonal pre-disposition? Or am i fooling myself into thinking that the incredibly dedicated training routine/ and recent extra clean eating will get my where I want to go -->LEANER!

Also, my naturopath gave me the option of supplementing some Bio-estradiol - would this help with the hormonal balance/ physical appearance.

Anyone have a similar experience? What is the best option here?

Thanks in advance!

I know eating more fat might be hard as it would seem to be counterproductive to getting lean, but your diet appears to be very low in fat, and you need fat to make female hormones! If you swapped fruit for fat it could make a difference.

I dont want to give you too much to think about but you need to come over to my forum and fins out about 'a new method for PCOS' and make friends with Shinjin13 and ask her about how her PCOS has responded to circadian biology.

Just being curious..what is your ideal weight? It's tough to lose weight when hormones are out of whack, I'm dealing with it to a degree. Good luck to you.

Okay, so I??m a couch potato so my view on the matter may be a bit warped, but it seems to me like you are working out an awful lot. Also you do not seem to eat enough fat. Why would you only use eggwhites in your shake? I would put whole eggs in there and lots of heavy cream. Then I would add chunks of butter on all meats and vegs. Plain butter is the best gravy :) You really need animal fats to make your hormones, they are made out of cholesterol you know.

I recommend the testing too. I'm wondering if you have too much progesterone at this point. I'd drop the DIM honestly. If your naturopath is suggesting bio-estradiol, that implicates not enough estrogen. How much progesterone are you taking?

Also what adrenal herbs are you taking?

Have you had blood work or a saliva test to figure out what your hormone levels are at? Your hormones are supposed to be naturally at a certain percentage ratio, and blood work or a saliva test can figure out where yours are off at. Your doctor can do the blood work and some compounding pharmacies have saliva testing available. From there, the compounding pharmacy can compound the bio-identical hormones in the ratio that you need to straighten out.
