HIV+ Paleohackers?

Have you modified your diet since becoming HIV+?

or

Have your symptoms of the disease and/or medications changed since starting a paleo diet?

I don't keep any sort of rigid diet at the moment, but have recently been diagnosed positive and am interested to see how helpful a strict(er, ish) paleo diet can be.

Agreed. Supplementing modern medicine with an optimal diet as the best one can do. Maybe eating beyond optimal, something therapeutic as long as it doesn't interfere with conventional medicine. I'm disappointed to see sick folks not eating as optimally as possible when it has a real shot at improving healing.

I also worry about people who do this. It's not any different than people going on raw vegan diets to magically cure chronic illness. My diet will be in addition to my medications of course

I'm no expert, but apparently those in the clean food movement respect the advice of Sandor Elix Katz and his fermentation philosophy and practices. Katz himself is HIV+. Website here and numerous books on Amazon.com.

Great question! My HIV+ friends are all doing well on meds but like most Americans they do not give much thought to their dietary habits. Paleo has done wonders for me in taming my autoimmune disease (psoriasis) but I have no data wrt any impact a paleo diet has on folks with HIV/AIDS. It would be great to know.

Speaking speculatively, if paleo is optimal, then it should set you up for the best outcomes possible.

It's not a magic bullet though. Worrisome when folks with chronic/persistent diseases like HIV and cancer talk about forgoing more conventional treatments. HIV treatments have progressed quite a bit over the years, it's becoming a managed disease.
