Grassfed heavy cream: How much is too much?!

I usually drink at least a half-pint or more a day.

My favorite brand is Evan's Farmhouse from upstate. The cream comes from grassfed Jersey cows, so it's almost a pale yellow color, and very rich and sweet. There's no nutritional info on the bottle, but that leads me to believe it's pure heavy cream, and I'm inclined to trust that there is no carageenan or other stabilizers or emulsifiers. Week to week, the consistency varies a bit, so I know it's VERY fresh.

One cup of heavy cream, according to fatsecret.com (ha, I know! Not really how they would want me using the site!), contains 88.06g of fat. 54g of which are saturated, 3g PUFA and 25g of MUFA. I'm guessing that's alot of CLA and n-3 PUFA since it's grassfed.


If I'm having 2 cups a day, or more, is that too much? I generally consume about 50-60% of my calories from fat, try to eat about 90-100g of protein a day (I weigh 127) or more if I can. It's hard to consume that much, when grassfed beef is so expensive. I usually drink alot of cream in my morning tea, and then again in the afternoon in iced tea. At night I sip on it as a snack.

EDIT: I should also note that I'm not trying to lose weight, just a little stubborn belly fat. My goals are to gain more muscle mass, definition and strenght. I'd say I'm probably hovering right now at about 9-10% BF, and seeing my abs more and more everyday. Really my question boils down to: What amount of cream is too much for an optimal metabolism?

As a side note, I grew up drinking gallons upon gallons of 2% milk (wishing now that it had been raw whole milk or pastured cream!), and never had any problems skin/joint/bloat related from it.

Drink as much as you want. If you start to gain weight, cut back. :)

If you drop 1/2 of those cups for a few weeks you will create a small calorie (fat) deficit in your diet and it will likely help you to drop the belly fat a bit faster.

Otherwise, drink as much as you want!

No one can answer that for you. If it's preventing weight loss then cut back, or if you have any inflation cut back, you may want to have a blood test to check inflammation.

There really are some people that do seem able to get by with a nearly unlimited amount of dairy and still be okay. I can lose weight drinking cups of cream, but I get wicked inflammation so I try to keep it limited.
